Samuel was included in the Prescot Reporter list of men serving the colours which was published in May 1915. He was the brother of Horace Youd and Carl Youd.

Although no Prescot address can be found for him, he was a brother of Percy Youd of the Imperial Hotel

He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
