George was born in Prescot in 1893, one of 12 children to George and May Jenkins. In the 1911 census, George Junior was aged 18 and worked at Lyons Mineral Water factory in Warrington Road, Prescot. When he attested for military service in Warrington on 5th January 1916, he was aged 22 and single, still living with his parents in Bond Street. He was initially posted to the South Lancs Regiment, but transferred to the King's on 1st April 1916
After training, he went to France on 3rd June 1916, landing at Le Havre on 4th, but he was wounded in action on 15th June and returned to the UK two days later after treatment at a Casualty Clearing Station and Field Ambulance.
On 10th March 1917 at St Mary's Parish Church, Prescot, he married Louisa Jane Bishop, the elder sister of Thomas Henry Bishop and William John Bishop. I believe they had 6 children between 1918 and 1935.
George was finally discharged on 20th September 1917 as he was no longer physically fit for military service. He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal. His wounds also qualifed him for the Silver War Badge.
He died in Prescot in 1959, aged 66
