Dragon Row, Whiston, Prescot 2nd/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Born in Prescot on 5th March 1877 and one of three brothers, the other two being William (Billy) and Henry, Alfred married Elizabeth Fairhurst in 1909 and by the time of the 1911 census, they lived as Boarders at the above address with their 7 month old son, Thomas. Alfred worked as a Watchmaker (Wheel Cutting Machinist).
Alfred enlisted on 9th Nov 1914 and was appointed Lance Corporal in September 1915. He was then disembodied in February 1916.
His daughter's birth certificate in 1917 shows her father to be serving with the 2nd/5th Battalion of the South Lancs.
His attestation papers show that he had previously served six years in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment. He did not go to France but was on defence duty near London and was discharged from the Army in Jan 1919.
Alfred played football for Prescot Athletic Football Club and is pictured below. He served as an Air Raid Warden in thwe Second World War.
In the 1939 National Register, Alfred was recorded at 35, Poplar Grove, Prescot. He worked as a Builder's Labourer
