Derby Cottage, Prescot 2/Lt, 2/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Reginald was born on 8th March 1886 in Halifax, the son of Richard and Mary Wood.
He married Mabel Stephenson in Prescot in the late summer of 1911. Mabel was the sister of the Stephenson brothers Charles, Claude and George, who owned the local printing company.
He was granted a commission as Second Lieutenant in the 2/5th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment on 3rd July 1915, and was made Temporary Lieutenant on 1st November 1915.
Throughout this time, he remained in the UK.

Lt. Wood finally went to France with his unit on 12th February 1917. The 1917 Army List shows him with the rank of Acting Captain, gazetted on 19th July 1917. An extract from the Battalion War Diary shows him as being 2nd in Command of "D" Company, with his brother in law, Charles Stephenson, in command.
He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
After the war, Reginald Wood was employed as a Traffic Manager at the Wire Works, and he recorded this as his occupation when he was added to the 1939 National Register (below).
