Claude Stephenson was born around 1887 in Nottingham and moved to Prescot with the family in 1900.

Claude took a BA at Liverpool 1910, then trained at Ridley Hall Cambridge 1913. He was ordained deacon in 1914, with the Times of June 8th 1914 reporting him as Deacon to the Parish Church at Bradford.

He was then Curate of Keighley 1914-17, then Temporary Chaplain to the Forces 1917-19. No details of this service have yet been established, other than that he served in France, Belgium and Germany.

After the war, Claude was Curate of Ingrow With Hainworth 1920-21. St Chad, Far Headingley 1921-21, Vicar of Brownhill 1923-33. Vicar of Staincliffe 1933-40. Vicar of Woodkirk (AKA West Ardsley) 1940-62. He then retired to Grammar School Lane, Newton, West Kirby.

Claude died in 1968 at the age of 81. Although married twice, he had no children.
