Service DetailsFrank Reed was a native of Mold, North Wales, and it would seem likely that he was one of many young Welsh men who migrated to Prescot in the early 20th century in order to work in the local coal mines.
Aged 21, he attested for military service in Warrington on 24th November 1914, recording his occupation as 'Collier'. His next of kin was listed as his father, Samuel, of Antrim Street, Tuebrook, Liverpool. Frank's address was recorded as 13, Warrington Road, Prescot. This is the building on the corner of Warrington Road and Wycherley Street.

He married Gertrude Beech in London on 29th August 1915. They didn't have any children.
After training, he went to France with his unit on 29th September 1915, and on 27th January 1916 he was posted to 35 Heavy Battery
Frank was wounded on 2nd February 1917 and died of his wounds at No 37 Field Ambulance the following day. He was buried at Habarcq. His records show that by this time, his wife, Gertrude, was living in Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
He was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal as shown on his Medal Index Card (below)
Frank's entry in the Register of Soldiers Effects lists his widow, Gertrude, as next of kin. She also received his personal effect as listed below
Gertrude received her late husband's medals in 1920 and 1921.
