Service DetailsAlbert attested for Military Service at Prescot on December 8th 1915. He was 36 years old, single and employed as a Clerk. He recorded his mother, Alice, as his next of kin.
He was immediately posted to the Army Reserve and was then mobilised on 14th June 1916, when he was posted as Private 28862 to the 3rd (Reserve) BAttalion of the South Lancashire Regiment.
On 29th September 1916, he went to France and was posted to the Base Depot. The next day he was transferred to the 2nd Bn, Manchester Regiment, followed by a transfer to the 11th Bn a few days later.
He was killed in action on 17th August 1916.
Albert was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
His mother, Alice, received her son's medals on 20th May 1921 and then his possessions on 11th May 1923. This comprised simply "two discs".
