Service DetailsMargaret Barlow, Fred's wife, was recorded at 9 Derby Street, Prescot in the 1911 census, the home of her father Frederick.
She married Fred on 26th December 1914 at ST Mary's, Prescot, and it would appear that she remained at the family address while he went to war.
It isn't clear how Fred ended up in Prescot in 1914. I believe that he had been a pre-war soldier and this explains how he ended up going to France at such an early date (9th March 1915).
By the end of May 1915, the Battalion was heavily involved in the fighting around Givenchy and it would seem that Pte Hitchcock was killed in this action.
Frederick Hitchcock was originally buried at Vauxhall Bridge Road Cemetery at Cuinchy but was exhumed and reinterred into Woburn Abbey Cemetery in February 1920
