James, 29, worked as an Ironworker Smelter and lived at 3, Wood Street Prescot with his wife of 4 years, Jane, and their two children Hannah (3) and 9 month old Harry |

Service DetailsJames' entry in the Silver War Badge register, shown below, reports that he enlisted on 22nd January 1917 and was discharged on 9th November 1917, aged 35.
Unfortunately, I cannot find any details of his service and so cannot determine where or when he received the wounds which resulted in his discharge, and ultimately his death.

James Hale died after the war and rests in Prescot Churchyard. Although the exact cause of his death is not known, he must have succumbed to injuries received whilst in service. This could have been at any stage of his service with the 8th battalion.
James was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal, in addition to the Silver War Badge
His widow, Jane, never remarried. The 1939 National Register shows her still at 14, Sewell Street. She died in 1966, aged 85, and rests in the same grave as her husband, James.
