24 Queens Road, Prescot Pte 2063, 11th Bn., Royal Warwickshire Regiment Charles was 21 years and 10 months old when he enlisted to the 11th Bn. of the Regiment on 7th September 1914. He worked as a Draftsman for BI&HC Ltd in Prescot, having completed a five year apprenticeship. His next of kin was his mother, Mary Ellen Ball, of the same address.
Charles was listed in the Parish Magazine list of men of the Bible Class who were serving the colours, and also in the Prescot Reporter list in May 1915 of men serving.
He was posted to the 14th (Depot) Battalion on 24th June 1915 then promoted to Sergeant on 20th July and transferred to the Army Ordnance Corps. Charles then went to France with the battalion on 16th November 1915, landing at Bolougne that day.
He had a spell in hospital in France during June 1918, suffering from Bronchitis, but no other illness or wounds have been identified.
Charles was demobbed on 23rd April 1919. He was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Ref. No.:
