6 Burrows Lane, Eccleston Lane Ends, Prescot Pte 28330, 18th Bn., Welsh Regiment Alfred Ball was born on 17th July 1878 in Prescot.
Alfred attested to the army on 31st March 1915 to the 18th (Service) Bn of the Welsh Regiment. At the time, he was a 36 year old Labourer. His next of kin was (presumably) his wife, Elizabeth Ann (nee Meredith) of the same address. They had been married on 20th September 1899 in Rainhill and had a daughter, Margaret.
Following a medical examination, Alfred was discharged on 16th April. No reasons for the discharge have been located. He did not have a medal entitlement.
Alfred was still at the Burrows Lane address at the time of the 1939 National Registration, which stated that he worked as a Waterworks Labourer. He was widowed and lived with his daughter, Margaret
