1 Rowson Street, Prescot AB R/4679, Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division John Brown was born on 24th May 1891 in Prescot. I have been unable to locate a definite address for him in his youth. He married Margaret Leather on 20th April 1913 at Ravenhead. Their son, Harry, was born on 6th August 1915
He joined the Army and was immediately posted to the Army Reserve on 10th December 1915, and was then called up for service by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 4th July 1917. He was initially posted to the 3rd Reserve Battalion of the Royal Naval Division and then on 30th October 1917 was posted to Hood Battalion, with whom he went to France
John was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
The 1939 National Register (below) listed John and Margaret Brown at 151 Warrington Road, Prescot, with John employed as a Locomotive Driver at the Cable Works.
John died in Prescot in March 1972, aged 80
