6 Wycherley Street, Prescot Private 580, 1/5th Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment Frank was born in Prescot around 1891, the third son of Timothy and Elizabeth Edwards. His younger brother, William Edwards, was killed in action in 1916. His other brothers, Frederick and Timothy, also served in the war.
He was one of the early Territorials, joining the new force shortly after its creation in 1908, aged 17, though he had already served with the forerunner, the 2nd Volunteer Battalion.
At the time of the 1911 census, he was recorded as a "Foreign Invoice Clerk" at the Wire Works.
He served with the Territorials for 5 years, leaving on 7th April 1913.
Frank rejoined the army on the outbreak of war, and in the Prescot reporter list of men serving the colours which was published in May 1915, he is shown as serving with the Royal Engineers. I have been unable to locate any further details of his service
In 1939, Frank was living with his wife, Elsie, at 12 Huyton Lane, Huyton
