9, Hill Street, Prescot Private 97487, Royal Welch Fusiliers 27 year old John Eccleston was married and working as a Labourer at the Wire Works when he attested for military service on 9th December 1915 at Prescot.
He had married Annie Kavanagh at the Registry Office in Prescot on 7th March 1910 and they had children Clara (October 1910), Mary Jane (March 1914) and Elizabeth (May 1917)
On an unknown date, he was transferred to the Royal Garrison Artillery and then to the Labour Corps (numbered 494861) on 14th December 1917. With the Labour Corps, he was posted to 553 Agricultural Company and will have been assigned to farming duties.
In October 1917, his wife appears to have lost contact with Pte Eccleston and wrote to the Army Records Office asking where he was! They replied to inform her of his latest posting, as shown below
His daughter, Elizabeth, died of Diptheria in January 1919
He was demobilised to the Class Z Reserve on 10th October 1919. John had not seen any overseas service and so had no medal entitlement.
