20, Market Place, Prescot Private 9238, South Lancashire Regiment Edwin Byron was born in Prescot in December 1890.
On 6th February 1909, Edward attested to the South Lancashire Regiment, stating that he was currently serving as a member of the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion. He was 18 years old and worked as a Labourer. He listed his family as Stepfather John Green, mother Mary, brothers Henry, Robert, James, John and Thomas, and sisters Jesse and Agnes
Originally serving with the 2nd Battalion, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion in 1911 and posted to India, where he remained until 3rd April 1914, when he returned to the UK.
He was discharged as being no longer physically fit for military service in May 1914.
