Address Not Known 207325, AM1, Royal Air Force Ernest was born on 19th March 1894 in Prescot. By the time of the 1901 census, the family were living in Chapel Lane in Coventry and then by the 1911 census, the family were living at 33, Gordon Street, Coventry. The family comprised widowed Elizabeth (52) and her three sons Thomas (25), George (22) and Ernest (17). All three sons worked for a local engineering firm.
Ernest was the only one born in Prescot, the remainder being natives of Coventry. This is line with many families in the Coventry watch making trade who moved to Prescot in the late 1800's in search of work, but who then returned to Coventry as the trade in Prescot struggled.
Ernest joined the Royal Naval Air Service on 7th August 1915, enlisting for the Duration of the War.
His next of kin was listed as his mother, Elizabeth, at the family address of 33, Gordon Street, Warwick.
He appears to have been based at various Naval Stations around the UK and then on 1st April 1918, Ernest was transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force.
Throughout his service, he remained in the UK, serving at bases in Yarmouth, Westgate and Chisledon.
Ernest was transferred to the Reserve on 4th March 1919.
By the time of the 1939 National Register, shown below, he had married and lived with his wife Ruby and three daughters at 95, Butt Lane, Coventry
