23 Hope Street, Prescot AM3 251853, Royal Air Force Fred was born on 25th October 1899 in Prescot, the only child of Arthur and Elizabeth (nee Pownall) Beesley. He was baptised at St Mary's on 3rd December 1899. The 1901 census listed the family at 2, Taylors Court, Moss Street, Prescot. Arthur died in 1906 and Elizabeth moved into the Hope Street address, which was the home of her brother, William Pownall with Fred.
Fred joined the Royal Naval Air Service on 7th March 1918, listing his occupation as 'Pattern Maker'. Just a few weeks later, on 31st March 1918, he was transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force as an Air Mechanic Third Class (AM3). His trade of Carpenter would have marked him out for service with the Air Force as most planes of that day were made of wood and fabric.
Most of his time in the services was spent at the RAF Research Depot at Blandford.
Fred was transferred to the Reserve on 24th February 1919. He did not see any overseas service
