9 Derby Street, Prescot Driver TS/9873, Army Service Corps Henry was born in Prescot in April 1884, one of 10 children to Frederick and Margaret Barlow. In 1901, the family lived at 84, Derby Street, Prescot, Fredrick being employed as a Saddler and Henry as his apprentice.
In the 1911 census, Henry was living in Allbrook in Hampshire, where he was a Boarder at the home of Arthur & Ellen Cassidy. Henry listed his occupation as 'Evangelist' in the Church Army. The remainder of the family were still in Derby Street, though they had moved to Number 9.
He attested for military service on 19th November 1915 at Woolwich, giving his occupation as 'Saddler'. The 'TS' prefix on his service number shows that he worked with Horse Transport, and more specifically that he was specially enlisted for his trade, because his civilian employment could be of use to the Horse Transport section.

Henry went to France on 3rd October 1916, remaining there until he was transferred to the Class Z Reserve on 24th June 1919 and was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal, as shown on the Medal Rolls (below).
At the time of the 1939 National Register, shown below, Henry was living in Croydon and recorded his occupation as 'Church Army Evangelist'
Henry died in 1958 in Hastings, Sussex. He was 74 years old. His Probate entry is shown below.
