26 Queens Road, Prescot Private 24164, Depot Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment Charles was a 28 year old Fitter's Labourer at the Wire Works when he joined the army in Liverpool in September 1915. After training with the South Lancs, he was posted to the 11th Bn., King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment on 1st April 1916 as Private 22441. He went to France with his unit on 3rd June 1916.
On 5th February 1918, he was transferred to the 2/5th Bn of the South Lancashire Regiment, remaining with them until he was discharged on 19th September 1918. At that time, he was a patient at the Edinburgh War Hospital, having suffered wounds at some earlier point in time, though details are not known
Pte Ellis was entitled to the British War Medal, Victory Medal and Silver War Badge
