John Edwards entry in the 1914 Electoral Roll for Prescot
Born in Chester around 1875, by the time of the 1911 census John Edwards and his family lived at 108 Warrington Road, Prescot. He had been married to Eliza for 9 years and they had six children, all born between 1903 and 1911. John was employed as a Painter at the Wire Works.
John Edwards attested for military service in St Helens on 30th October 1915, aged 39. He stated that he was employed as a Painter and Plumber. His wife, Eliza, was named as next of kin
After training, he went to France with his unit on 1st October 1916, remaining there until after the war had ended
In 1917, he was renumbered to 426754. In the German Spring Offensive of March 1918, Sapper Edwards was wounded, suffering Gun Shot wounds to the hands and face.
John was transferred to the reserve on 30th May 1919 at Chatham, Kent. He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal
