7, Chester Street, Prescot Private 55644, Manchester Regiment Born in Southport around 1887, Louis was shown on the 1911 census as a 34 year old Plumber living at the above address with wife Olive (33) and children Dorothy (8), John(6), Olive (3) and Hubert (3). All the children had been born in Prescot.
He was 39 years old when he attested for military service with the Royal Engineers at Chatham in May 1917, stating that he had previous service with the 5th South Lancs. At this time, he listed two more children, Winifred (10/01/1917) and Harold (20/08/1915).
In September 1917, he was transferred to the Pioneer Battalion of the Manchester Regiment, and went to France, joining them in the field on 23rd October. On 4th May 1918, his daughter Dorothy, 15, died at the Workhouse infirmary from peritonitis.
Louis remained in France until 28th January 1919 when he returned to the UK for demobilisation. He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal, receiving these in June 1922
He died in Prescot in 1943, aged 66
