St Helens Road, Prescot Private 35511, King’s Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) Malcolm Vincent Stockley was born in Prescot late in 1888. He was the son of Alfred, a Watch Frame Maker, and Annie Stockley. Living in St Helens Road at the time of the 1891 census, they had moved to Accrington 10 years later and the 1911 census showed Malcolm living with his parents at 1, High Street, Accrington, where 22 year old Malcolm recorded that he was employed as a Warehouseman.
He married Agnes Clayton in Haslingden in 1915.
Malcolm attested for Military Service on 12th December 1915, at which time he recorded his occupation as Commercial Traveller. He was only called up in June 1917 when he was posted to the King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). On 9th June 1917 he was transferred to the Army Pay Corps as Private 13882 and promoted to Corporal, but then in 1918 was again transferred, this time to 3rd Battalion, Border Regiment, numbered 51161.
He was demobilised to the Class Z Reserve on 1st March 1919. Malcolm does not appear to have served overseas and therefore has no medal entitlement.
Malcolm Stockley died in Haslingden in June 1944, aged 55.
