26, Grosvenor Road, Prescot Private 20286, No 3 Company, National Reserve Guard Robert Stone was born sometime around 1866 in London.
By the 1911 census, the family were living in Prescot where Robert worked as a Brass Driller at the Wire Works. He and his wife Edith had been married for 15 years. They had two children, but only one Lilian (b.1898) had survived.
At 48 years of age, Robert attested for limitary service in St Helens on 16th January 1915. He was posted to the National Reserve, presumably because of his age. His wife Edith of the same address was listed as next of kin. Robert had previously served with the army for 14 years, from 1885, and had travelled much of the Empire in that service
He was promoted to Corporal on 15th January 1915, retaining this rank until his discharge on 14th January 1916. His records show that he worked at the Wire Works in Prescot.
He did not serve overseas and had no medal entitlement.
Robert died in Prescot in 1950, aged 85.
