Robert BEESLEY


14, Beaconsfield Street, Prescot

Gunner 80012, Royal Garrison Artillery

Robert was a 28 year old Labourer when he attested to the army for the duration of the war at St Helens Town Hall on 21st May 1916. He was posted to the Royal Artillery as Gunner 80012. He recorded his sister, Annie, of the same address as his next of kin. He married Edith Cotterill at Battle, Susses on 17th September 1918.

He remained in the UK until 4th December 1916 when he went to France.

He returned to the UK on 17th August 1917 after being wounded, receiving a Gun Shot Wound to the left foot which left shrapnel in his leg. After treatment, he was assigned to the Depot at Ripon in March 1918 and remained there until discharge in December 1919.

After his discharge, he informed the records office that his address was now 26, Rowson Street, Prescot. He later gave an address in Bexhill, Sussex.

Robert was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
