Thomas BURNS

16 Mines Avenue, Prescot

Sapper 7194 (later 428102), West Lancs Division, Royal Engineers

Born in Prescot on 11th February 1893, Thomas attested for Military service on 14th October 1914, recording his next of kin as wife, Mary, of the same address.

He sailed for Gallipoli on 27th June 1915 with the Royal Engineers, but no information on his service overseas has been located.

His records show that he served as a Driver with the Royal Engineers from 28th May 1918 until his discharge on 1st March 1919. This was a medical discharge as he was suffering from Malaria.

In the 1939 National Register, Thomas is recorded living at 67 St James Road, Prescot.
