19, Queens Road, Prescot RQMS 155, 5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment William appears to have been one of the first recruits into the newly formed Territorial forces, signing for four years in Prescot on 11th April 1908. He had previously served with the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment from 26th November 1900 to 10th April 1908, when he transferred to the 5th Bn. He was appointed Quarter Master Sergeant in July 1908 and after attending annual training camp each year, he was called up for embodied service on 5th August 1914
William did not see overseas service and was demobilised on 19th April 1916 having completed his term of service.
He was awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Badge and Silver War Badge.
On discharge, his wife Edith's address was given as 4, Wycherley Street, Prescot. William and Edith had two children, William and Louise.
His service is commemorated on the EFD Roll of Honour
