23, Chester Street, Prescot Private 26742, 10th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment 21 year old William was single and worked as a Colliery Carpenter when he attested on 9th December 1915 in Prescot. His next of kin was his father, James, of the same address.
The 1911 census listed the family at the same address; James (46) and Rachel (39) had been married for 21 years and 6 of their 7 children were still living. Mary Brownbill (20) and her husband George, William (16), Geoff (11), Esther (8), George (5) and Lucy (3).
William was posted to the 10th Battalion on 23rd January 1916 but then on 6th March 1916 he was discharged as being 'No Longer Physically Fit for Military Service'. William had not served overseas and had no medal entitlement.
William died in Prescot in late 1969, aged 75
