81 Derby Street, Prescot Pte 35045, Grenadier Guards Frederick William Ambridge was born on 3rd August 1889.
In Warrington on 27th April 1918, Frederick attested for military service with the Grenadier Guards as Guardsman number 35045. He was 30 years old, single and worked as a Police Constable in Prescot. His religion was Church of England and he stated his next of kin as his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Ambridge of the Bowling Green, Forden near Welshpool.
He was posted overseas on 29th October 1918, joining the 1st Battalion at the front on 1st November. He remained in France with the Guards until embarking at Dunkirk for England on 4th March 1919, and he was demobilised on 13th April 1919.
Frederick was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
He married Elsie Youell in Prestwich in 1921.
When the 1939 National register was collated, Frederick was living at 567, Burnley Road, Rawtenstall with his wife, Elsie. By now he was a Sergeant with Lancashire Constabulary.
