Address Not Known Pte 86890, 19th Bn., Canadian Expeditionary Force William Bamber was born in Liverpool on 10th September 1890, the son of Herbert and Rachel(nee Williams). The family lived in Everton at the time of the 1901 census, and Fairfield in 1911, when William was listed as a 20 year old Joiner.
A Passenger List from 29th May 1913 shows William Bamber, a 24 year old Farmer, sailing from Liverpool to Quebec. Perhaps this is the same William Bamber?
He attested for military service at Winnipeg on 9th December 1914, aged 25. He stated that he was married and that wife Florence Mary was his next of kin. William stated that he was a Carpenter by trade and that he had previously served for 4 years with the Lancashire Artillery. Strangely, the marriage between William and Florence Mary Huckel was only recorded in the September quarter of 1915, in Barnet, Middlesex, some 9 months after William attested and stated that he was married.
William's name appeared in the Prescot Reporter in May 1915 as a Prescot man serving with the Canadian Infantry. Apart from this entry, William's connection with Prescot has not been fully established.
No details of William's actual military service in the Great War have been found.
On 22nd June 1917, Florence Mary Bamber sailed from Liverpool bound for Montreal. She stated that she was a housewife, aged 28
Genealogical records list a death registration for William on 13th January 1975 at Victoria, British Columbia. He was 84 years old and widowed.
