Charles SHELDON

47, Cross Street, Prescot

Private 22329, 18th (Reserve) Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment

Charles Sheldon was born on 24th August 1879.

On 8th December 1915, Charles Sheldon, a 36 year old House Painter, attested for Military Service in Prescot. He stated that he had previously served for 7 years with the Lancashire Fusiliers and was posted to the Royal Engineers.

His next of kin was listed as his wife, Lilian, of 12 Ackers Street, Prescot. They had married in April 1909.

Immediately posted to the Army Reserve, Charles was posted to the 18th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment on 5th March 1916. His service was short-lived, however, and he was discharged from the army on 14th April 1916 as he was considered no longer fit for military service.

However, records exist which show that he also enlisted to the Royal Naval Division as OS Z/1090 in 1916. No further details are available

Charles died in Liverpool in 1940, with a reported age of 59.
