George was the brother of Albert Horsfall Whitaker, James Whitaker and Owen Stanley Whitaker
Born in Prescot 15th October 1898, George was a 17 year old Clerk when he attested for military service at St Helens Town Hall on 7th October 1916. He was posted to the Reserve Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.
No further details of his service are known, though he did serve overseas.
He was demobilised at Woking on 22nd October 1919 and returned to Prescot.
His service is commemorated on the EFD Roll of Honour and the Men's Institute Roll of Honour
George was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal
He died in 1986 in Cheshire, aged 88.
