10, Bond Street, Prescot Private 40571, York and Lancaster Regiment At the time of the 1911 census, Robert, an elder brother of Thomas Finney, was employed as a General Labourer at the Cable Works.
He was already 36 years of age when he signed up for military service on 20th October 1916 at Preston.
Robert went to France with his unit on 7th January 1917, returning to the UK on 16th March. He then went back to France on 10th June and remained there until 30th October when he again returned to the UK, now suffering from a Gun Shot Wound. He then stayed in the UK until he was discharged early in 1919.
Robert's Medal Index Card shows that he also served as Private 2181 with the Scottish Rifles, although the dates for this service are not known.
He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
