John Waine was born in Prescot on 7th February 1891, the son of William and Mary Waine. He was the brother of Edward Waine
The 1901 census showed John as a scholar but by the time of the 1911 census he appears to have emigrated to Canada.
He attested for military service on 20th May 1915 at Montreal, stating that he had previously served for 4 years with the 5th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment.
At the time of attestation, John was single, recording his father in Prescot as next of kin.
No further details of his service have been located.
