48 Derby Street, Prescot Driver 67619, Royal Field Artillery Harry Tickle was born in Prescot in 1895, the eldest son of James and Alice Tickle.
The 1911 census showed him as a 16 year old Labourer in the Brass Shop at the Wire Works.
Harry attested to the Royal Artillery on 4th January 1915 in Warrington, aged 19. He worked as a Screw Operator and stated his next of kin was his father, James.
He was listed in the Prescot Reporter as serving in May 1915, and he then went to France on 29th July that year. Harry had a spell of 9 days leave in the UK in January 1917. In August of that year he was appointed to the ran of Acting Bombardier, but reverted to Driver at his own request. He remained in France until 25th January 1919 with one other period of leave to the UK in December 1918 for 14 days.
Harry was demobilised on 22nd February 1919 and was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, receiving these in July 1920. He died in 1959, aged 64.
