Service Details

Henry is commemorated on the St Helens Rolls of Honour

He is also commemorated on the Lane Ends Recreational Club Memorial

Enlisting aged 24 on 11th December 1915, Henry lived at 61, Edge Street, Nutgrove. He was employed as a Teams Man. He was initially posted to the Army Reserve but then mobilised on 18th April 1916 into the 7th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment.

He went to France on 20th December 1916, but a note in his records shows that he was transferred to a Home Establishment on 23rd November 1917 as he was a skilled ploughman, though he appears to have remained in France.

After the German Spring Offensive in March 1918, Henry was posted to the 2nd Battalion, and it was while serving with this unit that he was wounded on 29th May. He was evacuated to a Field Hospital but died of his wounds. He was buried at the French Military Hospital at Auban Moet.

In July 1920, his body was exhumed from his original burial place and reburied at Terlincthun.

He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
