Living at 45, Kemble Street were 33 year old John Prescott, an Ironmonger's Shop Assistant, his wife Mary (34) and children Thomas (7), Lillian (5) and Ernest (2).
1911 Census -
The family were by now living at 11 Market Place, Prescot. Thomas, aged 17, was an Apprentice Draughtsman at the Wire Works.

Service DetailsThomas' Medal Index Card shows his arrival in France on 21st November 1915.
The 14th Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment joined the Somme fighting on 18th July, when they captured German trenches between Bazentin-le-Grand and Longueval and then prepared for the assault on High Wood.
Thomas was killed during the attack on the position known as Wood Lane which ran from the southern corner of High Wood. The battalion suffered 485 casualties in the attack, with just over 200 being killed.
Thomas's service is commemorated on the Grammar School Roll of Honour

I am indebted to Kathy Donaldson for providing the above extract from the Liverpool Mercury of 5th May 1917, and the extract below from the following week's edition. These articles relate to pictures which belong to Pte Prescott and which were found on the body of a dead German soldier
