Service DetailsPte Platt was almost certainly a conscript and would have joined the army shortly after his 18th birthday. After training, he went to France, probably with the 18th Battalion before being transferred to the 13th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.
It's difficult to know where Pte Platt sustained the wounds which led to his death. In November 1918, as the war neared it's end, his Battalion were advancing rapidly behind the retreating German forces. The extracts from the Battalion War Diary shown below report the only contact with the enemy to be on 6th November, when they were shelled. Five days later, the war was over.
Frank Platt died in No 9 General Hospital, Rouen, two weeks after the Armistice. He was just 19 years old.
The Parish Magazine reported on 28th December 1918 'Five more names for our Roll of Honour' and included 'Pte. Frank Platt, 19, Durham Light Infantry, died in hospital in France 25th November 1918, of 24, Carlton Street'.
