The Woollard family lived at Queen Street, Cowlinge in Suffolk. George Wollard was a 40 year old Carpenter and resided with his wife Mary Ann, a 37 year old Tailoress, and children Violet (11), George (9), Laura (7), Mary (6) and Mabel (9 months)
In the 1911 census, George was living at King's Weston Gardens, King's Weston, where he is shown aged 19 and working as a Domestic Gardner. |

After the 1911 Census, I can find no trace of George until SDGW records that he enlisted in Seaforth and resided in Prescot. |

Service DetailsGeorge appears to have enlisted into the army around April 1916. He will have originally been allocated a 4 digit number but was then renumbered to 332068 in the Territorial Force renumbering of February 1917. On 4th February 1917, he went to France with his Battalion
On 1st February 1918, the 2/.9th Battalion was absorbed into the 9th Battalion of the Regiment
George Woollard died on 1st June 1918. The fact that he is buried at Couin suggests that he died at the nearby Field Ambulance, probably as a result of wounds. The Battalion War Diary does not list any casualties received in the week or so before his death and so I cannot determine the date on which George was wounded, or succumbed to sickness.
