Service DetailsHarold Edwin Wood attended Prescot Grammar School, starting there in 1899. His service is commemorated on the Grammar School Roll of Honour
The 1/5th Battalion of the Royal Scots landed at Gallipoli on 26th April 1915. Amazingly, they landed ashore without any casualties and took up position in the support trenches, with one company in the firing line. They started to advance on 27th but on the 28th, the War Diary reports that they had to fall back to their original positions due to heavy casualties.
28 men of the Battalion were killed on that date, including Edwin Wood. Along with 24 of his comrades, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

Wood, Corporal, 5th Royal Scots killed at the Gallipoli landing, April 1915 and Norman Beardmore, 20, Lance Corporal of the Royal Engineers at Ypres, 19th May 1915'.
