2 Beesley Cottages, St Helens Road, Prescot Private 4631, 2/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Thomas was born in Prescot on 21st January 1894, the son of William and Elizabeth Roscoe. William was a Gas Fitter. By 1901 the family had moved to 3 Moss Street and then on to 3 Saggersons Court, Prescot by the 1911 census. This census also showed that Thomas was the 2d of 10 children in the family, and aged 17, he was working as a Carrier in a Glass Bottle Factory
He attested for military service on 9th December 1915 aged 22 at St Helens, by which time his address was Beesley Cottages. His occupation was listed as Labourer.
Thomas remained in the UK until his unit was sent t France on 17th February 1917, and around this time he was renumbered to 242025 as part of the Territorial Force renumbering. He had also been appointed to the unpaid rank of Lance Corporal. Then in May of 1917, the role was changed to a paid role.
On 30th December 1917, Thomas was sent back to the UK for treatment, suffering from Trench Fever. He was treated at Cardonald General Hospital, Glasgow, until 26th March 1918. After discharge from hospital, he was posted to the 3rd Bn of the Regiment, based at Barrow and then to the Command Depot at Heaton Park.

Thomas was demobilised on 18th February 1919. He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal, receiving these in February 1922.
In 1920, Thomas married Constance Mary Atkinson. The 1939 National Register, shown below, records the family at 11 Freeman Street, Liverpool, with Thomas' occupation shown as a Charge Hand Packer at the Cable Works.
Thomas died in Knowsley in 1975, aged 81
