Eagle & Child, Warrington Road, Prescot Pte 155634 RAMC Richard was born in Widnes on 31st July 1877. The 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses all show him living in Widnes, the latter recording his as a Chemical Labourer.
In 1904, he married Catherine Ford in Widnes and they had a daughter, Helen, in April 1906
However in 1907, he became manager of the Eagle & Child in Scotchbarn Lane, Prescot, a job he retained for over 30 years.
In 1911 census he is listed at 1 Chorley Place, Prescot.
On 10th December 1915, he joined the army in Widnes. He was 38 years old at that time and stated that he had previously served with the Volunteers for 3 years, though the dates of that service are not known. He was immediately posted to the Army Reserve and was eventually called up for service on 9th July 1918.
He was posted the the 5th Training Battalion of the RAMC, based at Squires Gate in Blackpool.
On 2nd May 1919 at Woking, Surrey, he was transferred to the Class Z Reserve and would have then been demobilised in late 1919.
Richard did not see any overseas service and therefore had no medal entitlement.
The 1939 National register, shown below, recorded Richard and Catherine still at the Eagle and Child. Their daughter, Helen, had married James Gore in Prescot in 1935 and was living in Alder Road, Prescot.
Richard died in Prescot in 1968, aged 90.
