1 Wycherley Street, Prescot Private 105, 1/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Henry Roscoe was born in Prescot on 31st May 1880. He was an elder brother of Arthur Roscoe
On 14th April 1908, Henry attested to the newly formed 1/5th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment. He had served with its predecessor, the 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion of the Regiment.
On attestation, 27 year old Henry recorded that he was a Mechanic and worked for Messrs C J Hewitt & Co, a Pen Manufacturer
He married Clara Tunnicliff , a native of London, and they had daughters, Gladys and Clara. The 1911 census listed the family at the above address. A third daughter, Hilda, followed in 1912
Henry appeared in the list of men of the Bible Class who were serving the colours which appeared ion the Parish Magazine in 1915.
Like his brother Arthur, Henry remained with the Territorials until the outbreak of war, by which time he had attained the rank of Colour Sergeant. He remained in the UK until his term of engagement expired on 10th April 1916, when he was discharged.
Although he was not entitled to any service medals, as he remained in the UK, he was awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal.
At the time of the 1939 National Register, shown below, the family lived at 144 St Helens Road, Prescot
Henry died in Prescot in March 1959, aged 78
