After training in Bangor, North Wales, he was transferred to France as part of a reinforcement draft on 27th June 1916.
William's certificate of Trade Proficiency, which he needed to gain the appropriate rate of pay when joining the army
He remained in France for the remainder of the war, eventually serving with 420 Field Coy. He returned to the UK for demobilisation on 10th April 1919.
He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
