8 Park Road, Prescot Private 1813, Royal Army Medical Corps William Prescott was the eldest of four children to William and Amelia Prescott. In the 1911 census, the family were listed at the above address.
William enlisted to the army on 29th December 1914 at St Helens, aged 23. His next of kin was his father, also William, at the same address and he listed his father's occupation as 'Gardener'.
He served in France from 10th September 1915 as a Stretcher Bearer. In March 1916, he began to suffer from Lung problems caused by exposure. He was treated at the 25th General Hospital in Bolougne, France before being transferred to Tooting Beck Hospital in London in May 1916.
After discharge from hospital, he remained in the UK service with the RAMC at a variety of hospitals.
William was discharged on 6th August 1919. He was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal and Silver War Badge. He had also served under the number 341413.
