25 Cook Street, Whiston Private 55764, Army Service Corps In 1911, John Heaps was living with his widowed mother, Mary, at the above address. Aged 18, he was employed as a Coal Miner.
He originally served as Private 676 with the 1st/1st Lancashire Hussars Yeomanry (A Territorial Unit) and was renumbered to Private 250106 as part of the Territorial Force renumbering of March 1917. At some point after that, he again transferred to Private 55764 with the Motor Transport section of the Army Service Corps.
Although his date of discharge is not known, he re-enlisted into the Army Service Corps in August of 1919 but was then listed as a Deserter in the Police Gazette of 28th October 1919. He was finally discharged on 8th June 1920.
Private Heaps was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
