8, High Street, Prescot Private 22598, 11th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment William was a 19 year old Wire Drawer at the Wire Works when he attested for military service in ST Helens on 17th May 1915. He was single and lived at 3 Court, Moss Street, Prescot. His next of kin was his sister, Ellen.
On 12th February 1916, he was transferred to the Garrison Battalion of the Manchester Regiment, and a few weeks later, on 17th March, he was discharged as he was considered to be not fit enough for military service.
