Elton Head Road, Rainhill Private 202917, 2/4th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Walter Wells was born in Wavertree in 1896. The 1911 census showed him living at the Chaplain's House in Elton Head Road, Rainhill, where he was employed as a Domestic Servant.
The 2/4th Battalion of the South Lancs remained in the UK until February 1917, when they were sent to France.
Pte Wells was reported as wounded in the Birmingham Daily Post of 27th August 1917, this report showing him as having enlisted in Prescot.
Walter was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal
