14, Duke Street, Prescot AM3, 192549, Royal Air Force John was born on 8th April 1893 in Knowsley, the eldest son of William and Betty Thornton. At the time of the 1911 census, the family lived in Tithebarn Road, Knowsley. John, then aged 17, was listed as a "Typist Disengaged".
He married Elizabeth Prescott on 24th May 1915 in Widnes, and his pre-war Occupation was Machinist
He joined the Royal Air Force on 5th June 1918 and served s an Acetylene Welder
John was demobilised at Heaton Park on 28th January 1919. He did not serve overseas
