44 Warrington Road, Prescot Private 3366, 1/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment (Later 241175) Robert was born in Liverpool in 1888. At the time of the 1911 census, the family lived at 7, Duke Street, Prescot. Robert worked as a General Labourer in the Lead Covering department of the Wire Works. Wife Lilian, children Dorothy (19/10/1908), John (01/11/1911) and Queenie (09/05/1916)
Robert attested to South Lancashire Regiment on 9th November 1914, aged 27. He was included in the Prescot Reporter list of men serving in May 1915
He remained in the UK until 16th February 1917 when he was posted to France. Unpaid Lance Corporal on 9th October 1917 but reverted at his own request to private on 10th January 1918 and returned to the UK in June of 1918. He was then posted to the reserve in order that he could work at Clock Face Colliery. He was later posted to the 3rd Battalion of the regiment on 31st October 1918. At some point during his service in France he was wounded by a Gas Shell.
He was discharged on 20th January 1919 at which time his home address was given as Wavertree Road, Edge Hill.
He was entitled to the British War Medal, Victory medal and Silver War Badge, this latter by virtue of being wounded. Ref. No.:
