He went to Egypt with the Artillery on 7th August 1915. It is almost certain that from here, he served in Gallipoli and then after the withdrawal from the Peninsula in late 1915, he will have been posted to Mesopotamia.
Edward was reported as a Prisoner of War in the Liverpool Daily Post, 22nd June 1916
He was entitled to 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal
There is a marriage entry for Edward Holme marrying Maggie Atherton in Prescot Registration District in 1906. They then appear on the 1911 Census living at 98 Brynn St, St Helens.
Edward 31, a Commercial Traveller, Maggie 25 (his wife) and Maggie, their 8 month old daughter. All are recorded as being born in St Helens.
It is possible that the Liverpool Daily Post entry recording him as a native of Prescot actually refers to Prescot Registration District, rather than the town itself.Ref. No.:
